What will Sitka look like in the year 2050?

That depends on what you decide!

How it Works
Using real data from Sitka's energy usage today and potential new renewable energy sources, CBS has created a board game to plan Sitka's energy path over the next 25 years! In the year 2050, what is powered by Sitka's current renewable electricity? Is hydropower enough or are other renewables in the picture? That depends on your ambition; how much of Sitka runs on electricity in the future? Are all vehicles electric? What about hydroponic gardens? Do non-fossil fuels become available for boats? Play to find out! Join the energy scientists behind the numbers on game night to answer questions, create new power goals, and play Energy Quest: Sitka's Path to 2050!

Why Should You Play Energy Quest?
The purpose of the Sitka Community Renewable Energy Strategy (SCRES) is to shape a roadmap community and policy actions that advance a shared energy vision, playing Energy Quest creates just that: your vision and roadmap to what you want Sitka to look like in 2050.
Your gameboard is your addition to the collective community vision.

PRESENT
The Energy Quest Facilitator will briefly introduce players to Sitka's energy landscape and explain the rules of the game.
Players will pick from prepared electrification goals based on real data, or can work with a scientist to create new ones. Players can pick as many goals as they want, but only get points for goals they achieve.
The Energy Quest Facilitator will conduct the game with the players who try to meet their chosen goals, build new sources of energy, react to unforeseen challenges, and create their vision and roadmap to Sitka in 2050!
Once the year 2050 is reached, players will discuss what their goals, generation sources, what they like about their vision and what they would change. The Energy Quest Facilitator will take photos of everyone's board for the final SCRES.

What Happens After the Game?
Once you've played the game, you've done it! You have added your personal touch to the collective community vision. Your gameboard and comments will be used to shape the final strategy of the SCRES document that is anticipated to be published in mid-2025.
