Commercial Recreational Land Use Survey

The City and Borough of Sitka’s Parks and Recreation Division is conducting the following survey as well as taking public comment on Commercial Recreational Land Uses on City Lands.  This survey is for users of CBS owned/managed recreational areas and facilities to provide their input, priorities, and preferences for allowing commercial use such as guided hikes, bike tours, and kayak rentals through the CBS commercial recreational land use permit process.

Areas, trails and roads outlined in this survey are often under the jurisdiction of multiple organizations (CBS, State of Alaska, BIHA, USFS, etc), with questions in this survey focused only where the CBS would require a permit for commercial recreation operations.

These results, coupled with the input received at an Open House meeting on October 24, 2024, will be presented to the Parks & Recreation Committee and the Assembly to guide how CBS will issue these permits starting in 2025.

Online survey can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TDMW3RT

Paper surveys can also be found at the Sitka Public Library, City of Sitka Public Works Office and at the City of Sitka Parks and Recreation Office.

Additional materials: To help inform the public of how Sitka’s recreational assets have been utilized in the past, including current levels of use, commercial permits issued in previous years, considerations of use and other agency governance, have been developed. As additional information and analysis is conducted these resources will be expanded on and updated.
