Tin Cans

Why Recycle Tin Cans?

Tin cans make up a small portion of Sitka’s waste stream, but every bit helps! Plus, Sitka can crush and bale tin cans with same baler they are using for baling junk cars and other recovered metals. So, you’re tin cans may be shipped south in the same bale with somebody car!

Where and When Do We Collect Tin Cans?

At the Marine Services Center (city cold storage) on Katlian Street. The Center is located near the Petro marine and auto fuel stations. It is open seven days a week.

How Should the Cans Be Prepared for Recycling?

Wash all food or other material out of the can. Remove label. It is NOT necessary to cut both ends off the cans and flatten them. The cut out lid can be placed back in the can after washing. Watch for sharp edges!
